Are You Too Busy For Meditation?

You should meditate more ...

When you have a million and one things to do, meditation is the last thing on your mind. After all, how can sitting still and meditating for 10 or 20 minutes help out your busy life?

You may think you're too busy for meditation, but it has real benefits!

Well, the answer is a lot actually because meditation helps clear the mind. When you are busy, it is like a whirlwind of thoughts go through your mind all the time. This makes our thinking muddled and confused.

Taking time to clear your mind helps still your thoughts, so they are more like a gentle breeze on a summers day rather than hurricane season. Having a calm mind, free from thoughts, helps separate you from the busyness and give you space to think clearly.

"Meditation also helps you to reduce
your stress levels!"

When you are on the go mentally and physically, stress in the body and mind manifests in all sorts of ways, from tense shoulders, backache and high blood pressure.

I once had a meditation student who actually measured his high blood pressure before and after he meditated. It unsurprisingly dropped after a meditation session! So if your feeling stressed, meditation really can help reduce that feeling.

So how do we meditate our busyness and stress away? Follow these steps:

  1. Sit comfortably and close your eyes

  2. become aware of any stresses, aches and pains in the body

  3. imagine they dissolve into thick black smoke

  4. breath the black smoke out into the distance until your body feels less tense

  5. then become aware of the busyness of your mind

  6. breath those thoughts and feelings out as thick black smoke until you feel calm and peaceful

At the start of any training, I like to start with a meditation similar to this to help people get rid of the busyness and become spacious. This not only helps everyone to become calm, but creates a peaceful space for everyone to learn in.

"Want to create some space
in your busy life?"
