10 Steps To Meditate Your Way To Productivity

10-minutes a day will help clear the mind ...

Is your mind busy? Is it always chattering away to itself, thinking about past failures and future glory? If you are like this, you are a normal human being as we all do that to some degree ...

Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you can meditate your way to productivity!

While it is sometimes useful, as we all need to plan for the future, learn from past mistakes and think about life's great adventures, we do need to give the mind a break on occasion.

"Giving the mind a break is the same as taking a holiday!"

We rest and recharge our batteries ready to take on the world so meditation is like a mini-holiday for the mind that we can take anytime, anywhere, night or day. Even just 10 minutes a day will help clear the mind so we can recharge and hit the rest of the day running. So how do we meditate?

The 10 steps below will help you start a meditation practice:

  1. Sit comfortably. It doesn’t matter whether this is cross-legged on the floor or sat in a comfy chair. (I have even been known to meditate on the toilet when I had a particularly stressful day at work!) The main thing is to keep your back straight but not too tight as to be uncomfortable. This will help you stay alert.

  2. Keep your hands in your lap to help stop fidgeting.

  3. Gently close your eyes allowing a little bit of light to filter through, but not so much as to distract you.

  4. Let your external world dissolve away, like hot water being poured over ice.

  5. Bring your attention to your breathing. The cool air that enters the nose and inflates your lungs. The warm air that leaves as your lungs deflate. Follow that motion with your mind.

  6. If you find yourself getting distracted, without comment or judgment, just bring your awareness back to the breath.

  7. After a while, once your mind has settled, bring your inner attention to focus on your nose. The hot and cool air that causes a sensation as it does so. Keep all your attention on that sensation.

  8. Keep doing this until your mind calms down and you feel a sense of inner peace. This may be 10 or 30 minutes, it is up to you how much time you want to spend on meditation.

  9. End your meditation by thinking how you would like to take this sense of calm into your day and making a promise to try and do so.

  10. Get up, refreshed and recharged (or go to sleep easier if you’re doing it last thing at night).

Doing this meditation every day will help you become calmer, which in turn will help you be more productive.

I can testify that after years of meditating on and off, I am way more productive when I meditate regularly. I believe this is because it gives me clarity and helps me focus easier on the tasks ahead of me.

"So what have you got to lose?"
